Went up to Mazama last Saturday the 4th. Haven't been on my skis in 4 yrs. for a variety of reasons. I got about 10k in on Sunday and then the snow started. Love to see the snow but I'm not crazy about skiing in it. Hard to figure out the wax, don't like pushing snow with my skates and HATE pattern skis.
Haven't been to Mazama for a couple of weeks and it took me three hours to dig out the house and the shop. Worked the snow blower hard. So, while I didn't get a lot of exercise skiing I did get a good work out blowing snow. I need the exercise. I gained so much weight in the last couple of years that my skis would have been severely mushed out. Would have been like skiing on planks. I lost about 20 pounds this past summer working in Wenatchee but was laid of for the winter and I'm starting to put on weight again. The snow blowing was good for me. Supposed to get a big dump in the valley this weekend. More exercise in my future.
Seahawks: Surprised they got past the Eagles. Of course it helped that Clowney destroyed Wentz early in the game. McCown did a great job as the backup. Took a last minute desperation pass by Wilson to Metcalf to put the game out of reach for the Eagles. I think if the Eagles had one more possession they probably would have won the game. On to Lambeau Field to face the Packers. My brothers son is a huge Packers fan although he was born and raised in Minnesota and now lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Go figure. Anyways, it's great fun texting him during the Seahawk/Packers game. Especially when the Hawks are beating the Cheese Heads. I feel good about the Seahawks' chances. They always play the Packers tuff.
Seattle School District: I see the Seattle School District told 800 students to stay home because they did not have their MMR vaccinations (Measles, Mumps, Rubella). I say good for the district. I don't know why parents don't have their kids vaccinated. Now for a little rabble rousing - There has never been a study done that shows an correlation between vaccinations and autism. The ONE and ONLY study that did show a connection was proven to be a sham. Last year the Washington State Legislature (How about that? They actually did something I agree with!) changed the vaccination exemption law to remove the personal exemptions clause which allowed a parent to opt out of vaccinations for their kids because they thought the shots would harm their kids. I guess it's OK for your sick kid to infect other peoples kids. The religious belief exemption is still in place. Personally, I think that should be removed also.
Iran: I sure hope we don't see a large scale military operation. Our service members and families need a rest. I say that with the knowledge that when you sign up you should be aware of the fact that Uncle Sam owns your ass and you could be thrown in front of the cannons at anytime. Let's just hope it doesn't come to that this time around. I also feel for the Iranian people. The are in between a radical Islamist hard place and a U.S. election cycle rock. Don't get me wrong. Iran is a bad actor but I think because of the current circumstances the chances of Iran getting blasted to hell are greatly elevated.
OK, that being said, if the U.S. does commit American sons and daughters to an action in Iran then it needs to be done with EVERTHING we can throw at them, swift and devastating. Get in, get it done and get out. Keep the F'n politicians out of it (Rep's and Dem's).
OK, I'm done. Harder than hell to type on this computer. Spilled a whisky/seven on it and the keyboard keys are sticky as molasses. Had the whole machine apart and spread all over the table. Their wasn't a piece left that couldn't be taken apart. Cleaned everything and dried all the parts so the damn thing runs again but the keyboard is a sealed unit. Can't get the sticky goo out of it.
